More info

The Swordfish, affectionately known as The Stringbag because of its wealth of struts and wires, was introduced in 1936 and although almost outdated by the start of the war, it remained in front-line service until VE Day. The MKI version was also fitted with floats in some cases for use off aircraft catapult-equipped warships. Another attribute which proved most useful as a space saver aboard aircraft carriers comprised its folding wings.
